Marlow – Chiltern Way (Loop)

Home Counties (Leg 7 Report)

Distance covered:    14.6 miles / 23.5 km

By 7:45am Perlus, Chairman, Mr D, Randy, Ato & Alfred had arrived at Marlow car park.

For the first 2km  we pretty much stayed together after which Randy & Ato joined Perlus as early pacesetters. There wasn’t much of a distance between the 6 of us. The formation remained pretty fluid till the 10km mark (either in pairs (Perlus, Ato;  Randy, Mr D; Chairman, Alfred, or two batches of three Perlus, Ato & Randy; Mr D, Chairman & Alfred)).

By half way it became clear Mr D wanted to keep up with the front runners.

The main challenge on this trail was the overgrown bushes and prickly nettles. Perlus was in short sleeves, (oh dear) while those of us with bald heads with no head gear had a few baldy moments.

Testament to Ato’s fitness, in the absence of Kofi and Kray he kept up with Perlus for a long period. There was motivation for Ato to keep pace as long as he did. He had a fufu, with crab light soup date at 2pm.

His recent elite training sessions with Nick KA and their fellow APSU guys is certainly paying off.

We are looking forward to having them join us to test their mettle on true hiking terrain.

We have pacesetters, elevation specialists, slope technicians, muddy ground experts, navigation gurus & the back markers. Any new joiners will be taken care of.

By the 5km mark Perlus was slightly ahead of the pack followed by Ato and Mr D.

Chairman, Randy and Alfie stayed together to for the last uphill challenge which was 3-4km from the end.

From then on it was cruise control till the end.

We had a round of cold drinks and coffee to celebrate a good session.

We spoke to Kray from Paris. Typical, he wanted a performance lowdown.

Perlus in his designer shades and Ato with the fufu date in mind respectfully declined after hike drinks.

Acorners are great fun!
